Q: Hi Carla. Tell us about yourself and your business?
Hi there! My name is Carla Holden and I’m the founder of Her Business Boutique where I help female entreprenuer’s launch their services online and create strategic marketing plans that bring in more clients and sales.
Q: What ignited the spark in you to start your business?
I have a background as a writer and artist and had grown to be pretty tech savvy in setting up my own online business so I started helping other women get their businesses online as a fun “side project”. I started writing copy for women and designing their websites and it organically grew from there!
Q: What does a typical day in your life look like?
A good day has me up at 7 am! I go for an hour walk in my neighborhood. I live in Los Angeles and walk pass the Hollywood sign every morning…I love it! I usually grab a coffee while I’m out, come home, do my meditation and typically start working from home around 10 am. Oh, and I make sure and get dressed for the day – This is HUGE for me. I feel so much better when I’m not living in my pajama’s or sweats – although this still happens: ). I see private clients on Wednesdays and Thursdays via Skype and the other days I’m marketing my business online. I LOVE batching activities and when I’m really organized, I write my blog posts or shoot video on Mondays, focus on social media content and scheduling on Tuesdays and spend Friday’s reaching out to potential collaborators, finishing any admin tasks and closing up shop for the weekend!
Q: What’s been your biggest challenge so far and how did you overcome it?
FEAR! It constantly comes up for me. With every new level I reach, there’s a new fear. I’m always pushing past my excuses, comfort zone, perfectionism, small thinking and caring what other people think!
Action is the only remedy I’ve found for overcoming fear. I write out a fearless action plan – what would I do if I were completely unafraid? – and then I commit to taking those actions – no matter what my head tells me. No matter what!
Q: What has been the most rewarding experience since launching your business/blog?
I get emails from women all around the world, telling me how much a training or blog post has helped them and how inspired they feel by what I’m doing. It completely blows my mind and I am SO grateful!
Q: What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started your business?
To never compare myself to anyone and to keep my eyes on my own paper…yeah basically to mind my OWN business!
Q: What business tools or resources have helped you or inspired you?
LeadPages, Facebook advertising have hands down been the best tools I’ve used for growing my audience and business online.
Q: What social media network do you find to be the most pivotal to your business?
I love looking at pretty things so I aim to use Instagram more consistently but Facebook has been where it’s at for me.
Q: If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out, what would it be?
Build your email list! Everything you do to build your list – boosts your profile and gives you a larger audience to market to. Decide what you are selling and who out there needs what you have… then commit to reaching out to 3 of these people a day, every single day for a month asking them how you can be of service and if they’d be interested in talking more about what you have to offer.
Personal reach outs and building those relationships, in the beginning, is what will get your business off the ground pretty quickly. It’s how I made my first 5k….
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Do what you can, with what you have, where you are…Start before you’re ready!
Q: What’s in store for your business in 2016?
BIG things!:) I’m going to be hitting the road and hosting local workshops, running my group program “Sell Out Your Coaching™” again this spring, hosting an interview series, launching my first digital programs and doing video blogs weekly.
Q: What made you choose your current Bluchic Theme for your website?
Bluchic templates are beyond gorgeous!! It’s really important that i have a site that not only looks lovely but converts visitors into my list and this template has helped majorly with that!!
Q: What are some of your favorite features in Olivie Theme?
The functionality is perfect and I love that the Olivie theme has the horizontal opt-in bar and the cute social media nav bar at the top.
Q: What is your favorite quote?
“There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than you are capable of living” – Nelson Mandela
