Introducing Bluchic Customer Spotlight, a series of posts featuring our customers who share the amazing stories behind their business and the gorgeous website they’ve built with Bluchic themes.
In today’s Bluchic Customer Spotlight, we’re happy to introduce you to Christine Cowles Bergamin, the wedding planner and designer of Love+Story Events. Read on to learn more about Christine’s inspiring story and how she uses our Quinn WordPress Theme for her website. Enjoy!
Q: Hi Christine. Tell us about yourself and your business?
Like many small business owners, I have a variety of experiences that brought me to this point. I’ve been a Yosemite park ranger, a professional fundraiser, graphic designer, and volunteer for several non-profits. At 42 years old, I decided to change career paths. Or really, combine everything I’ve done by creating Love+Story Events, a boutique wedding design, and planning studio in Santa Barbara, CA.
Q: What ignited the spark in you to start your business?
After coordinating the weddings of a few friends, I knew that I had landed on what I really loved: combine the creativity of design and organization of event planning into one. It felt like all of my previous experiences were leading me to this point.
Q: What does a typical day in your life look like?
Well, it’s not nearly as interesting as one may think. There is a lot of work that goes into a wedding: meetings with vendors, phone calls with clients, designing event layouts, and creating design “storyboards.” Many days are spent in front of my computer. But I love that each day is always a little different, with a new connection to be made or new design/idea from which to learn.
Q: What’s been your biggest challenge so far and how did you overcome it?
Marketing myself. I’m an introvert who has always worked for someone else, and this is the first time I’ve had to promote myself. Attending networking events for wedding professionals has helped me get out of my shell and connect with others (and learn that some share similar challenges!).
Q: What’s one thing you wish you knew before you started your business?
How to provide only the services negotiated in a contract and when to renegotiate a contract. My tendency is to do more than agreed upon – and not charge more for it.
Q: What business tools or resources have helped you or inspired you?
Bluchic has made my online presence sophisticated and elegant yet inviting and approachable. I get so many compliments on my website! I am inspired by the branding strategy of Kate Spade New York and the work of Shay Cochrane and several local floral designers.
Q: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Know your brand identity and carry it across every platform. And keep it simple!
Q: What’s in store for your business in 2016?
Photo shoots. In my business, sharing one’s design aesthetic and ideas are important.
Q: What made you choose your current Bluchic Theme for your website?
The minute I received Bluchic’s newsletter announcing the Quinn theme, I knew it gave me exactly what I was looking for: full-width slideshow, lots of white space, an elegant and feminine design, and header fonts that complimented my logo and brand.
Q: What are some of your favorite features in Quinn Theme?
Typography, full-width slideshow and sticky menu. I do love the Instagram plugin but haven’t installed it yet!
Q: What is your favorite quote?
“Space is the breath of art.” -Frank Lloyd Wright.
