Learn what our number 1 referral is to our website and tips on how you can increase your website traffic!

Want to know what our #1 referral is to our website?

It may shock you, but it’s organic search traffic, also known as the almighty Google.

While we love using social media to grow our business (check out how we use Instagram and Pinterest!) it’s nowhere near the amount of traffic we get from organic searches.

Increasing your organic search referrals takes time (keep in mind we’ve been in business since 2012) but we do have a few tips on how you can increase your organic search traffic to your website.

Below we describe how we increased organic search traffic to our website and how you can too. We hope this helps!

Our #1 Referral To Our Website & How You Can Get More Traffic

1 | Routinely create valuable content

If we didn’t regularly update our website, I don’t think we would have near as much organic search traffic as we have today.

For now, we primarily use this very blog to continuously share new content on our website but you don’t have to blog if you don’t want to.

You can share videos or podcast episodes with a brief blog post accompanying them to routinely add new, valuable content to your site.

Google has even said specifically that it rewards website that is routinely updated.

Whatever type of content you decide to share, make sure you are writing on topics that your ideal audience wants to learn more about. Do your research and answer their questions.

Also, if you go the blog route, make sure to not write for search engines. For long-term growth, it’s better to write in a natural way sharing content your audience will love.

2 | Implement great SEO strategies

SEO is a topic that is confusing to many and can be challenging to master but if you learn the correct strategies it can pay off big time.

Here are a few easy ways to get started with SEO:

  • Install the Yoast SEO plugin: This is by far the best SEO plugin out there. It analyzes your blog posts and gives you a red, yellow, or green light indicating how well you’re doing for each category. It also gives you tips on how to improve. Did we mention that it’s free?!
  • Do keyword research: Doing keyword research helps you find the exact phrases people are using when they search on Google. One way to find keywords is to use the Google keyword tool.
  • Link to relevant past content on your site: Go back through your blog posts and add links to relevant past posts. These are called backlinks and this helps improve your SEO efforts.

3 | Use a responsive website

A responsive website is a must nowadays. A responsive website is a little different than a mobile-friendly website. Responsive design refers to your screen optimizing to whatever device you are on. A mobile-friendly design means it has one mobile-optimized look.

Anyways, the point is, you could get penalized for not having a responsive website and we don’t want that!

21% of our traffic comes from mobile devices or tablets and while that’s not a huge percentage it keeps increasing every year.

All of our Bluchic WordPress themes are responsive, FYI!

4 | Promote your content

While the majority of our referral traffic is from organic search, it doesn’t hurt to share your content on other platforms.

Social media is a great place to start: Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter…start with a couple and add more as you get comfortable.

You can also share on sites such as Quora, StumbleUpon, Slideshare, Reddit…the options are endless! Do your research on what makes the most sense for your niche and forget the rest.

5 | Get featured on other sites

Getting featured on other sites through guest blogging, linking, interviews, and more is a great way to increase your SEO and organic traffic.

Google likes to reward websites that other sites link back to because it shows that you are a credible source.

Instead of blatantly asking for people to link back to your site, you can approach it through guest blogging on relevant sites, getting featured in interviews, and providing super valuable content that people will naturally want to link back to.
