That’s why we are sharing 7 ways to help you create a seamless marketing plan for 2022 that feels good and is easy to implement.

7 Steps to Creating Your 2022 Marketing Plan

1 | Editorial Calendar

Are you the type who plans their content and posts ahead of time? Or do you tend to shoot from the hip and post whatever comes to mind that day? 

No matter what type of business you have, we highly encourage you to use a strategic editorial calendar for your content. When you have a plan, you’re more likely to be consistent and more likely to share content that’s in line with your goals.

Not sure where to start? Take a look at your Google Analytics to see which pages or previous posts have the most traffic generated. Then, think about questions that come up all the time with clients or customers. From there, you can plan out posts, emails, product launches, etc. We like to plan our content in 3-month increments (by quarter).

2 | Break Down Your Goals

Take your big year-end long goals and decide what your quarterly goals are. From there, think about how you can use content and marketing tactics to help you reach those goals. 

Do you want to increase subscribers to increase email sales? Then you need to find a way to get more people on your email list (like an opt-in). 

Do you want to increase podcast subscribers? You’ll want to make sure you’re showing up on other people’s podcasts and maybe even doing some promotion ads to your favorite episodes. 

Do you want to attract new clients? Maybe it’s time to start speaking in front of groups of your ideal client or setting up a referral program.

Reflecting on what is a priority for your business each quarter will not only help you put together your editorial calendar, but it will help you hone in and focus on specific goals to grow your bottom line. 

Breaking down your goals in 3-month increments will help prevent overwhelm and make your next steps much more actionable.

3 | Review Your Bandwidth

This is where most marketing efforts go wrong — overestimating what’s possible. If you have a goal to get 2000 new subscribers this quarter but you’re also going to be working on a huge project, traveling a lot, or taking care of your own children, you might want to plan ahead so you can either:

1. Schedule content early
2. Find help
3. Put it on the backburner

Take a look at your quarters and what else you have going on outside of your business. Go ahead and block out those dates in your calendar. From there, you can plan to knock out big projects around those other events, travel, etc.

4 | Create a Lead Magnet

A lead magnet is simply an offer to your customers in exchange for subscribing to your email list. It’s an amazing way to drive more traffic to your site and promote your products or services! 

The freebie or offer could be anything that gives your customers value, such as an ebook, spreadsheet, checklist, etc. We have an entire freebie library if you want to see more ideas! 

Not sure how a lead magnet will make marketing easier? You can plan content into your editorial calendar that will promote your lead magnets throughout the year. Let’s say you have a lead magnet that helps WordPress users code their own CSS. You could create content that talks about CSS on WordPress, including simple tips to help them DIY it!

5 | Implement SEO Strategies

When you see the acronym “SEO,” are you immediately overwhelmed?? We know SEO strategies can be confusing, but there are a few easy ways to implement SEO strategies to help with your marketing.

  • Be sure to install the Yoast SEO plugin. It analyzes your blog posts and helps give feedback on how to improve them.
  • Spend time doing keyword searches to see what keywords people are using on google search.
  • Look back through your content and see where you can add links in for previous content you have posted. This keeps customers on your site longer and improves your SEO!

You don’t have to go all out on complicated SEO strategies. Just focus on the basics — you’ll be surprised how much it does for you!
